Unbelievable Luxury Awaits: GreenTree Inn Guangde's Hidden Gem!
Unbelievable Luxury (and a Tiny Disaster!) at GreenTree Inn Guangde: My Raw, Honest Review
Alright, buckle up, travel freaks, because I just got back from a stay at the GreenTree Inn Guangde, and let me tell you, the "Unbelievable Luxury" tagline? Well, it's… complicated. This isn't going to be your perfectly polished travel blog post. This is going to be me, unfiltered, rambling a bit, and spilling all the (mostly) delicious tea.
First Impressions & Getting There: The Accessibility Dance (Okay, maybe not the dance I was hoping for…)
Okay, so, accessibility. Here's the deal. The website says "Facilities for disabled guests" and lists an elevator, which is great! That's a huge win for anyone with mobility issues (wheelchair accessible is also a solid plus). However, when I got there, the “facilities” seemed a little… limited. I didn't personally need them (Access is something I'm thankfully still rocking!), but I'm worried about how accessible everything really is. They definitely need to get more specific on their official website so that customers can know exactly what to expect. The good news is there is a car park [free of charge] and they offer a car park [on-site]. I'm not sure if there are handicap parking spaces, but I didn't notice any. The airport transfer options are available, and I'm assuming there will be taxi service options available.
Rooms: Cozy & Clean… Mostly
The rooms themselves? Pretty darn comfy. I was in a non-smoking room (whew!), and it was CLEAN. Seriously, the cleanliness and safety game was on point – and I’m talking pre-pandemic level, and in post-pandemic mode. My room also featured a mirror, alarm clock, air conditioning, and bathrobes, just to name a few. You know, the whole shebang. It was seriously convenient; I could use the hair dryer, and, oh goodness, the free bottled water! I loved the slippers and the towels felt fluffy, I'm sure the linens were clean, but I'm not sure since I slept like a rock. Also, they offer additional toilet and separate shower/bathtub. I even appreciated the complimentary tea and the coffee/tea maker. I was able to relax because of all of these available in all rooms resources. The room sanitization opt-out available is a great feature to give customers more options. Oh, and there's a desk, which would've been perfect for me to work, had I not been off enjoying my vacation. The Daily housekeeping was excellent too! I'd say this area certainly falls very far on the positive side.
Internet & Tech: Wi-Fi Woes (and Wins!)
Okay, so the internet access – wireless, or Wi-Fi [free] was supposed to be solid. They blare that Free Wi-Fi in all rooms! and the Wi-Fi in public areas like it's the second coming. The issue I had was that it was frequently slow and unreliable, especially in the evenings. Super annoying when you're trying to upload those Insta-worthy sunset photos. Thank goodness for the Internet access – LAN and if things got really bad, the internet services were available. If you're relying on it for work during your trip, be warned! But hey, at least the laptop workspace was good to go.
Food, Glorious Food (Mostly!)
This is where things got really interesting. Let's start with the good: the breakfast buffet. Asian breakfast. You know, the classics. I'm a sucker for a good congee, and they delivered. But, the breakfast [buffet] service was a little… crowded. It felt like a free-for-all at times. There's a vegetarian restaurant, and I'm sure all of the other options for buffet in restaurant are delicious. There was also a coffee shop and restaurants. There were two options for Asian cuisine in restaurant and Western cuisine in restaurant, which is something I like. The desserts in restaurant were also delicious, so yes, this part's a win!
The poolside bar was a great spot to grab a quick snack and drink, and they offered some tasty snacks, and salads in the restaurant. The room service [24-hour], was a godsend after a long day of… well, nothing much. It included the bottle of water and coffee/tea in restaurant options.
Things to Do & Ways to Relax (The "Luxury" Part Kicks In!)
Now we're cooking with gas! Okay, on to the fun stuff! The swimming pool [outdoor] and pool with view were absolutely divine. I spent a solid afternoon just floating and staring at the sky. Pure bliss. They claim to have a fitness center, a gym/fitness, a spa/sauna, and a steamroom but I didn't get a chance to try them out. Massage options are available, and there are ways to relax for every personality. I did experience the Body scrub and it was a treat. I think the Foot bath is a fantastic idea.
Safety & Cleanliness: Reassuring… Mostly
I'm a bit of a germaphobe, so I was happy to see the lengths GreenTree Inn Guangde goes to for cleanliness and safety. They had hand sanitizer everywhere, the staff were all wearing masks, and you know it's good when they use Anti-viral cleaning products. The Daily disinfection in common areas was reassuring. There was CCTV in common areas which I found reassuring. Fire extinguisher and smoke alarms in every room. However, I didn't notice any physical distancing of at least 1 meter. The rooms sanitized between stays which seems pretty good. Overall I'd say things are pretty good here.
The Price and the (Minor) Meltdown
Look, I wouldn't say that this is the ultimate luxury experience. There are some kinks to work out with the accessibility, internet and some areas of service. It's not perfect, but it's a pretty good deal for what you get.
The Quirks & Anecdotes
Okay, I need to tell you about this one thing. On my way out, I somehow tripped over a potted plant in the lobby and nearly ate cement. Seriously. I think I scared everyone within a 50-yard radius. But hey, at least I got a free ice pack from the front desk. These things happen!
My Unbelievable Luxury Recommendation (With a Caveat!)
So, would I recommend GreenTree Inn Guangde? Yes, BUT. If you're looking for a solid, comfortable stay with some great amenities and a few luxurious touches, go for it. If you're expecting flawless luxury and impeccable service, temper your expectations.

Okay, buckle up, buttercups, because this ain't your grandma's itinerary! This is my Guangde, China, adventure log. Prepare for a wild ride through the GreenTree Inn Guangde Zhongyang Lecheng Business Hotel (try saying that three times fast after a few Baijiu shots), complete with all my usual chaos, triumphs, and questionable decisions.
The Unofficial, Highly Subjective, and Probably Inaccurate Guangde Adventure Log
Day 1: Arrival and the Great Wall of… Walls (Maybe?)
Morning (7:00 AM - 9:00 AM): Ugh, the flight. Why do airlines think offering "breakfast" at that hour is acceptable? It's still technically the middle of the night! Anyway, landed in Shanghai and the usual airport shuffle began. Lost my boarding pass, nearly lost my sanity, finally managed to snag a train to Xuancheng. Smooth sailing… until it wasn't.
Mid-Morning (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM): Train was fine, scenery lovely, but the language barrier! Trying to explain "GreenTree Inn Guangde Zhongyang Lecheng Business Hotel" to a taxi driver using hand gestures and frantic pointing at my phone? Pure comedic gold. He eventually understood (I think).
Afternoon (12:00 PM - 3:00 PM): Arrived at the legendary GreenTree Inn. It… exists. It's clean, it's got a bed, and the air conditioning works, which is a HUGE win in this humidity. The front desk staff? Bless their hearts. My Mandarin is limited to "Ni hao" and "xie xie," which, let's be honest, isn't getting me far. The room itself is… compact. Like, "I could probably touch all four walls simultaneously" compact. But hey, it's an adventure! Checked in and prepared to go explore.
Afternoon and Evening (3:00 PM - 7:00 PM): MY GOD, SO MUCH FOOD! And it was glorious! Wandered around Guangde, stumbling upon a restaurant that looked promising. The menu? All hieroglyphics. Pointed at some pictures. What I got: noodles, some weird-looking but DELICIOUS meat (maybe duck? Or maybe something else entirely… I will probably never know, and I'm okay with that!), and a soup so spicy it made my nose run. Worth it. Tried to find something resembling a “Great Wall,” as I had read something about a wall nearby. I was told I could find the closest attraction, so I took a taxi and the taxi driver gave me a tour of a brick wall, a small town, and nothing that resembled a great wall.
Evening (7:00 PM - onwards): Back at the hotel. Survived my first day. Am already plotting sneaking down to the lobby for free wifi and maybe a sneaky chocolate bar from the vending machine. Sleep? Probably. Peace? Absolutely not. Already wondering if I can successfully navigate the breakfast buffet in the morning without accidentally ordering three plates of something I can't identify. Good night.
Day 2: The Temple of… Confusion? and the Night Market Showdown
Morning (7:00 AM - 9:00 AM): The breakfast buffet. Oh, the breakfast buffet! This is where the adventure really began. There were… things. Some were clearly dumplings, some were suspiciously gelatinous, and others were a mystery wrapped in a deep-fried enigma. I mostly stuck to the safe bets (rice porridge, bland bread), cautiously observing the locals. Pretty sure one of them winked at me while eating something that might have been a pig's ear. Respect.
Late Morning (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM): Found a taxi driver on my way to a temple. He kept chattering away in Mandarin, and though I could hardly understand a word, his cheerful disposition was utterly contagious. He dropped me off at a gorgeous temple, all red and gold, bells chiming in the breeze. Wandering through the courtyards was so calming.
Afternoon (12:00 PM - 3:00 PM): Lunch. Found another restaurant. This time, I pointed at everything. Let the culinary roulette begin! Got a plate of something that looked like tofu, covered in what I think was fermented black beans. It was… intense. My tastebuds are still recovering.
Afternoon/Evening (3:00 PM - 7:00 PM): Ah, the night market. The crowds! The smells! The food! I am pretty sure I saw at least ten different varieties of noodles, none of which I could identify. I bravely sampled some skewered meats (suspect, but delicious), and ended up with a sticky, sweet treat that looked like a flattened toffee disc. It was wonderful after a day of confusion.
Evening (7:00 PM - onwards): Back at the hotel. The wifi is still a struggle. Attempted to order room service (or at least ask if i could have food to go). Nope. Gave up and started watching some Chinese tv. I don't understand a word, but it’s hypnotic. Tomorrow, I face a new day, new challenges, and most likely, more food-related mysteries. Seriously, what is that thing everyone is eating? I need to know!
Day 3: The Hotel, the Departure, and the Existential Dread
Morning (6:00 AM - 8:00 AM): Woke up early with the strange feeling that I had forgotten to do something. A walk around Guangde, even in the early morning, is worth the early wake up. I picked up some Baozi from a local vendor. That, along with the coffee machine in the lobby seemed to be the highlight of the morning.
Morning (8:00 AM - 12:00 PM): Well, it's time to leave. I've survived the GreenTree Inn - a journey I'll never forget. I’ve learned a lot, been frustrated a lot, and will go on, feeling like I have a new experience.
Afternoon (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM): Train to Shanghai. Goodbye Guangde! Goodbye, delicious (and sometimes terrifying) food! Goodbye, incomprehensible menus! The existential dread of leaving begins.
Afternoon (1:00 PM - 5:00 PM): Flight back home. The airport security was a nightmare. But the flight was uneventful, and the airline food was… well, at least it was food. The best part of the whole flight? The moment I got back, I grabbed a snack.
Evening/Night (5:00 PM - onwards): Home. Exhausted, exhilarated, and already dreaming of the next adventure (and maybe learning a few more phrases in Mandarin).
Final Thoughts:
Guangde was an adventure. It was messy, it was confusing, it was sometimes challenging, and it was absolutely unforgettable. I learned that I'm braver, a little more adventurous and maybe a little crazy, but I wouldn't trade any of it for the world. And yes, I'm still wondering what that mysterious, gelatinous substance was at the breakfast buffet. If anyone knows, please, for the love of all that is holy, tell me.
